Hon. James J. Alfano, Ret.
While serving the Orange County Superior and Municipal Courts for 20 years, Judge Alfano presided over Law and Motion Calendars, Family Law and General Civil Litigation. In addition, as a Court Settlement Officer, he resolved Complex Civil matters and a wide diversity of Personal Injury and Business disputes. Judge Alfano is now available as a Mediator, Arbitrator, Private Judge and Discovery Referee. Clients rate him highly as an Arbitrator for his understanding of the law, his courteous and sympathetic demeanor and his thoroughness in reviewing submitted materials in order to render fair decisions. As a Mediator, clients say Judge Alfano's skills are above average, "he is a true gentleman, extremely professional, a great listener and totally dedicated to bringing the parties together" was one client's comment. Clients utilizing him for both roles say he is tops on their lists for their cases. He is dedicated and committed towards a fair and equitable resolution and has a pleasant personality. For example, in a recent case all litigants agreed to have Judge Alfano assess and decide an equitable distribution of a 5 million dollar automobile insurance policy among six claimants.

ACHIEVEMENTS & AWARDS
  • Judge Alfano has been a recipient of many honors including two separate heroic police incidents from which recommendations for the Medal of Valor were made by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Nick Meyer Award for the "Outstanding Public Defender" in 1975.
  • He was also a member of the California Berkeley’s Pappy Waldorf’s Rose Bowl Football teams of 1950-51.
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
  • In his spare time, Judge Alfano enjoys handball, racquetball, weightlifting, yoga, water/snow skiing, white water rafting, houseboating, and traveling.
